Top Tips for happy & effective practice
Stay happy! Even if you have to pretend a little bit.
Remember your top job is to make your child want to practise. That’s not the same as making them practise.
Try to praise your child for everything they do well. Always praise their efforts first, then work on improvement next
Remember you are the adult and they are the kid.
Practice at a good time for both you and your child.
Use practice charts and rewards. A lot.
Be organised. Use your practice notes, have your tools on hand, keep an eye on the clock, do what your teacher has asked you to do.
Start and end each practice with a bow.
End with something you both like doing. If the practice has gone badly or is ending early, ask your child to choose anything to finish with and find something to praise about what they’ve done, even if it was not how you’d like.
Remember you can always try again tomorrow!
