Suzuki instrumental lessons for kids aged four and over on violin, cello, flute & Trumpet
How does it work?
Suzuki kids learn to play beautifully. No matter where they’re from, who their parents are, or whether they come from a musical family. We’ll teach you what you need to know, and show you what to do and how. Suzuki kids learn with love, online and in person.
The Suzuki Approach is based on how you learn your home language - starting young, practising regularly, listening, imitating, taking it step by step, and most of all through constant encouragement and praise. Parents are the vital practise partners in this adventure, and so need to learn the basics of how to play their child’s chosen instrument before the kids start their own lessons. This takes the form of five or six private lessons in person while your child starts Music Mind Games online and you attend parent education sessions and watch group lessons on your instrument with your child.
Once you learn an instrument with us, you do three classes a week - usually over two visits each week. If you do violin it is possible to do everything on a Saturday but we have a waiting list for these lessons.
Please note we have lots of space for violin and cello lessons, limited space for flute, and no spaces at all on trumpet. We have closed the waiting list for trumpet as we are so over-subscribed. If you’d like more information please get in touch. Thanks.
Individual lessons:
All our instrumental students have a weekly individual lesson on their instrument, where the Suzuki triangle of teacher, student and parent work together to make home practise as easy and effective as possible. The parent is the ‘practise partner’ and must be fully involved in these lessons, learning how to help the child reproduce the activities and pieces learnt in the lesson during practice. Once the parent has had at least five lessons of their own, the child can start.
Group lessons:
Learning is most effective when it’s fun, and our group lessons are loads of fun. All of our students attend a weekly instrumental group and also a weekly musicianship group. Instrumental group is where you consolidate the skills learnt in private lessons, and musicianship is where you learn more general skills such as singing, pulse, rhythm, notation, how to write your own music, and much more besides. These groups lead to orchestra or ensemble after four to five years of learning.
Everyone does their individual lesson with a parent or home carer, but a friend or childminder can bring students to their group classes if necessary. Suzuki Hub provides a fully rounded musical education, so all our students do the whole programme plus concerts, workshops, busking and other fun activities.
We hope you choose to join us!
